Thin wall sockets are used for bolts/nuts that are too close to something (maybe a wheel, pipe, firewall, inside an access hole) and a traditional socket will not fit.

If your socket is the proper size, then the bolt/nut shouldn't get stuck. A 6-point socket is almost always preferred. It decreases the chance of rounding the heads off.A
